About Me

I’m a mother. I’m a wife. I’m a Christian. I’m a geek. I’m a liberal. I’m a cook. I’m an employee. I’m a consumer. I’m an alumna. I’m a reader. I’m a voter. I’m a subscriber. I’m a homeowner.

Yet somehow, underneath all those labels, I’m still just me. This is the story of what it is like to live my life.

I just came across your post re: ACL / knee injury. I recently did pretty much what you did, but I believe I’m a fair amount older than you. What has happened since 2011? Did you have the reconstruction? Scope?

    • Betsy,

I’m pleased with the outcome. They had to remove a lot of the meniscus, so I’m restricted from doing high impact sports. There’s just nothing to cushion the knee, and I’m trying to make sure that my knee lasts as long as possible, so no marathons for me! But other than that, I have pretty much full function. It took a LONG time, and I have to be careful to exercise (http://mytruantpen.com/2013/02/16/yes-kind-sir-she-sits-and-spins/) or I start getting achy/pulling up short. But I can kneel, hike, bike, jog to catch a bus, do yoga… It may never be perfect again, but it can be pretty good!

  3. Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly. I’m still in the unconfident stage – had arthro last week to clean everything out. Dr. has said he probably would not reconstruct my ACL due to my age (boy, 60 is a big number…) and the fact that I don’t have the most active lifestyle, but getting back to yoga and the treadmill would really be nice. Think good thoughts!
