About Me

I’m a mother. I’m a wife. I’m a Christian. I’m a geek. I’m a gamer. I’m a cook. I’m an employee. I’m a consumer. I’m an alumna. I’m a reader. I’m a voter. I’m a subscriber. I’m a homeowner.

Yet somehow, underneath all those labels, I’m still just me. This is the story of what it is like to live my life.

Please note that this blog is only my personal opinion, and not to be taken as the official opinion of my church, my employer, my town board of selectmen, my local YMCA or my cats.

  1. I just came across your post re: ACL / knee injury. I recently did pretty much what you did, but I believe I’m a fair amount older than you. What has happened since 2011? Did you have the reconstruction? Scope?

    1. Betsy,

I’m pleased with the outcome. They had to remove a lot of the meniscus, so I’m restricted from doing high impact sports. There’s just nothing to cushion the knee, and I’m trying to make sure that my knee lasts as long as possible, so no marathons for me! But other than that, I have pretty much full function. It took a LONG time, and I have to be careful to exercise (https://mytruantpen.com/2013/02/16/yes-kind-sir-she-sits-and-spins/) or I start getting achy/pulling up short. But I can kneel, hike, bike, jog to catch a bus, do yoga… It may never be perfect again, but it can be pretty good!

  2. Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly. I’m still in the unconfident stage – had arthro last week to clean everything out. Dr. has said he probably would not reconstruct my ACL due to my age (boy, 60 is a big number…) and the fact that I don’t have the most active lifestyle, but getting back to yoga and the treadmill would really be nice. Think good thoughts!

  3. I would like to invite you to an Ice Castles adventure. We have been very popular in Utah and now have locations in New Hampshire, Minnesota and Vermont. We are expanding and growing because of this amazing experience created by hand and Mother Nature. We would love to have you and your family join us when we open. I am so excited to be a part of this! And then, if you are as amazed by the experience as most are, just spread the word. Let me know if I can answer any questions! I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks so much for your time

  4. Hi,

I’ve been following your blog a bit. Love the humor infused in your articles. Life can be brutal, no reason not to spice it up a bit with laughter.

I’d like to connect to your blog tomorrow or Saturday for my ‘Blog of the Day’ link. I would set the link this evening and change it tomorrow evening. I won’t do it without your approval.

    I’ll drop by again soon!

  5. Hi Brenda! I would like to connect with you regarding the blog article you did about the fire in 1948 in the house you are living in. I am a surviving member of the family and the article was forwarded to me tonight. Would love to meet and share with you what I know and was told. Hope to hear from you.
